# Phone Number Setup

Every Atlas Blue Campaign requires a dedicated phone number.

## Linking a Phone Number

Select from **Available Phone Numbers** to link to your campaign.

## Getting a New Phone Number

* **iMessage** primary with **SMS** or **RCS** fallback
* Specify Region and Zip Code for a local number
* Billing: monthly, quarterly, or yearly

### Choosing a ZIP code

When a new Atlas Blue number is provisioned for you, you'll be sent a link to the
Atlas Blue number claim page. From there:

1. Enter the **5-digit ZIP code** you'd like your number based near, or skip to
   receive any available number.
2. A best-effort suggestion may pre-fill the ZIP field based on your location.
3. Click **Provision number**, or choose **Any available number is fine** to skip
   the ZIP preference.

> **Note**
>
> Only exact 5-digit ZIP codes are accepted (for example `94105`). ZIP+4 is not supported.

The page shows one of four states once it loads:

| Status | Meaning |
| -------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- |
| Awaiting ZIP | Submit a ZIP code, or opt out, to provision your number. |
| In progress | Your number is being provisioned — you can close the page. |
| Provisioned | Your Atlas Blue number is ready. |
| Not applicable | No ZIP code is needed for this account. |

Once provisioning finishes, the number appears in your Atlas Blue campaign
dashboard automatically.

## Fallback Channels

When a contact is not reachable on iMessage, Atlas falls back to SMS or RCS depending on your plan:

| Channel | Use |
| ------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **SMS** | Two-way conversations. Carriers filter content that looks like marketing and may not deliver it. |
| **RCS** | Recommended fallback for outbound campaigns. Provides delivery and read receipts, and covers Android. |

## Activation Timeline

Provisioning takes **up to 24 hours**. You'll receive an email when ready.

New numbers start in a warm-up period with reduced daily limits for the first 8 days after activation. See [Sending Limits & Queue](/docs/atlas-blue-campaigns/sending-limits-queue).
